A place in Muldersdrift
Our car broke last week, so Robin and I have been getting around on his Royal Enfield, which usually only hits a top speed of 80km/h. Ironically, his particular model is called a Bullet.
We decided to take a drive to Muldersdrift and ended up at the Drift Country Inn for lunch. No, it wasn’t a breakfast-run that turned into a lunch-run. The Bullet is darem not that slow. Robin assures me it can actually go faster than 80km/h... Show me, Robbie, show me!
The Inn, which seemed to be a fave place of some West-Rand bikers, had an Eisbein special (was delicious), which made Robin happy. And it had some nobody-cares decor, nooks and crannies for me. Think chandeliers and model ships in the dining area, rusted playground ‘artefacts’ and a gloriously green pool.
I love that such a place exists here just as you start getting into the Wedding Mile, the road connecting the numerous fancy-shmancy wedding venues on this side of Joburg.
The vibe is at the Inn is laid-back, and the food and drinks affordable. The service was slow though, but they were very busy. Ordering at the bar is probably your best bet. You can even go have a swim – at your own risk as the faded sign warns.
The Drift Country Inn is not a see-and-be-seen type of place. It feels a bit stuck in an unintentional time warp and could be the perfect hide-out if you’re ever in trouble (don’t judge me – you have to know these things just in case).
Oh and thank you very much to the entertainment man - because of someone’s “very special request for ACDC”, ‘Thunderstruck’ is still stuck in my head...
Drift Country Inn is on Drift Boulevard in Muldersdrift (Google Maps can help you get there). Here are some pics if you want to get a feel for the place.
