Afros and rhinos go ceramic

Ceramic Factory is one of the new(-ish) places that's adding the cool factor to Linden's ‘high street’ (a Joburg neighbourhood). If you love ceramics or just have a thing for quirky-cool things, you’ll adore this store! Imagine: ceramic robots, toy cars 'parked' on small plates and rabbit salt and pepper shakers...

Just recently, the team (led by the awesome Rial Visagie) added some handmade and moulded sophistication to the mix with the Citizenship brand. For now, it includes two ranges: the fun Fro Family with its afro-rocking dog and The Village of the Rhino. Instead of just being fun or functional, the first is a celebration of heritage, while the latter is “a hopeful reaction to the gory imagery associated with rhino poaching," says Rial.

Both ranges are made from terracotta, which is lightly glazed over, setting them apart from the other products in store.

Go have a look at 59 4th avenue in Linden or like them on Facebook to learn more.
