Art is all around

As we walked through Troyeville, Fairview and the Maboneng precinct in the Joburg CBD, the passionate tour guide from P.A.S.T. Experiences pointed out street art. She explained where graffiti fits into the larger context of urban art, how it uplifts communities and more about the artists. Some of them were from overseas and participated in the 2013 City of Gold Urban Art Festival, which ended mid-April.

BUT

I wasn’t paying that much attention. I was taking photos like I’ve never seen A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G. in my life. My happy-snapping giddiness probably brought about by just walking the streets of the city. And of course, seeing some artists, like the UK’s Solo One, in action just added to the whole thing.

Here are some of the works that formed part of the City of Gold festival with a few murals etc. spotted for good measure. They should all still be there, so keep an eye out when you’re out!
